Awesome Eats: Ye’s Sushi (Waterloo)
Last night the girlfriend and I finally decided to try Ye’s Sushi, an all you can eat sushi buffet that just recently opened on King & Northfield.
This is actually the second Ye’s Sushi here in the K-W Region, there’s an older, much smaller one on King & Queen. The idea is simple: You have a massive menu of about 150 items, an empty ready to go stomach, and about 24 dollars per person.
The price is what essentially sold me on this place as I decided to go to it. I love sushi, but the price of it in many places can hurt my wallet. Here however, I get to have as much sushi (And other entrees) as I want for a set price of $20 (Plus tip/tax). You will not pay an extra dime for anything on the menu, unless you leave leftovers. I am not sure what the charge is for each left over as I had none, but at one sushi place I went to about a year ago it was $1 per item.
The food was amazing. When you’re eating sushi, it’s not hard to tell the quality of the food. The salmon was a nice deep pink, the rice was moist and made perfectly. The avocado literally would melt in my mouth as I bit into a sushi roll. I mostly had sushi last night, but the other foods I was able to try (Some rolls, teriyaki chicken, beef) were also very tasty and well done.
The service was standard fare. We had to ask for water a few times as we would go 5-10 minutes with empty glasses, but that’s fine. The food comes out in bits and pieces, so if you do things right you basically always have some form of food in front of you. We went through 2 large orders of food (Yes, I ate way too much) and the only downtime was because our table did not have any order papers after our initial one.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. It’s much roomier and larger then the old Ye’s, very bright lighting and everything was clean. The plating and dining experience in general was nice. The food all comes out in a variety of unique plates that also look really heavy, but are insanely light, it was kind of mind boggling. Finally, since washrooms are one of the best indicators (in my opinion) of how clean a restaurant is: The washrooms were spotless and well maintained.
Overall, Ye’s Sushi was a great dining experience. I will definitely go back again, now that I’ve tried some of the menu and can better pinpoint what I enjoy. $12.99 for Lunch and $19.99 for Dinner is a great deal for an enjoyable, lengthy dinner that will leave you satisfied in the end.
